Why I Collect Crayons, Chase History, and Share the Joy of Color

If you had told me as a kid—knees scuffed, broken arms (I broke my right arm twice and left arm once!), crayons worn down to nubs—that one day I’d have a hobby writing about crayons for the world, I probably would’ve shrugged and gone back to coloring. And yet… here we are.
Welcome to Crayolona.
This space is an extension of my TikTok account, but it’s also something a little deeper and slower. TikTok is where I share quick stories, product reviews, and colorful moments. This blog is where I get to stretch out—share the history, the research, the collecting details, and the personal stories that don’t always fit into a short video.
How This All Started
Like a lot of people, my love for crayons started early. Crayons weren’t just art supplies—they were tools for imagination, comfort, and creativity. I never really outgrew that feeling. Instead, it evolved into collecting, researching, and preserving the history behind the brands and products so many of us grew up with.
Over time, I found myself drawn not just to the crayons themselves, but to the stories behind them:
The companies that made them
The families and employees who shaped them
The way these simple objects show up in everyday life, holidays, classrooms, and childhood memories
What started as nostalgia slowly turned into a full-blown research project—and eventually, a book-in-progress.
What You’ll Find Here
This blog is a home for all the things that don’t quite fit into a single category. You can expect posts about:
Vintage and modern Crayola products
Collecting tips and checklists
Historical research and archival finds
Comparisons with competitor brands
Personal stories from my research journey
The joy of creativity at any age
Some posts will be light and fun. Others will be nerdy and detailed. All of them come from genuine curiosity and a deep love for color, history, and storytelling.
A Quick Note on Transparency
Crayolona is an independent project. I’m not affiliated with or employed by any brand I discuss. When I review products or share PR items, my opinions are always my own. This space is about honesty, enthusiasm, and appreciation—not hype.
Let’s Color Outside the Lines
If you’re here because you love crayons, nostalgia, collecting, or just a little bit of everyday joy—you’re in the right place. I’m so glad you found your way here, and I can’t wait to share what’s next.
Thanks for being part of this colorful journey!
